Do we have to replace our current software?

Usually not. Most projects add a connective layer around existing tools. Replacement only comes up when a system has no way to get data in or out.

What if a vendor changes their API?

We prefer stable, documented integration points and build error handling and alerting so a failure surfaces immediately instead of silently dropping records.

Is this the same as AI automation?

No. Business automation moves and validates data along rules you define. AI automation handles work that requires interpreting language or unstructured input. They are often used together.

Can we start small?

That is what we recommend. One process, measured, then expanded once it is proven in your environment.
